What is D&D Deities Database Project?

Well, this is a very straightforward project, which try to collect in a single useful application all the entries classified as “deities”, “powers” or other godlike and powerful beings presented and published during the last 40 years in every official Setting of the famous role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons, providing handy tools to rapidly search this database.

Currently the project is a WORK IN PROGRESS, so data entries are still sketchy and incomplete. No real entry at the moment, I’m working on CSV to be imported…

This project is first of all the result of a take-and-merge job that I’m doing mainly between the work done by Shane ‘Alzrius’ O’Connor in his “list of useable deities for the (A)D&D game” (http://mimir.planewalker.com/planar-basics/gods-list-database/gods-list-database – back in 2005) -along with Ryan, Static and Clueless users contribution- and a second list, found on planewalker.com pages (here, http://mimir.planewalker.com/forum/list-dead-gods), divided into three articles due to its length; the author is Ripvanwormer which reposted an old list from geocities, compiled by Filbypott (here, http://www.geocities.ws/filbypott/gods.html).

The excellent list of Alzrius includes only deities that have enough informations presented about them to be useful in a campaign and that can be found in official (A)D&D published material; the wonderful thing is that the list points out the published products in which the deity has a listing. This list excludes non-divine or dubious entities, abstract forces, and all deities published in third-party manuals.

The second list I used unfortunately give no mention about the sources, instead providing the divine realms location; mentioned deities came from a larger choice of entities (like mystaran Empyreals) and of third-party works and publications, such as “World of Warcraft” D20 campaign setting from Sword & Sorcery.

I hope not to offend anyone with this project that – perhaps forcibly – combines different lists and works. I’ll try to remove speculative, fanon, unofficial and wrong infos; there are many of them about divine realms in the second list, for example.
